James Johnson was raised on the south side of Chicago. His mom was a devoted single parent who raised his siblings and was the de facto neighborhood mom. Regardless of his caring upbringing, James chose a life of rebellion and drugs in his teen years that spiraled into full-blown addiction for 45 years of his life.

It wasn’t until James withered away to 135 pounds and had a bad overdose that he was truly at the end of his rope-at 60 years old. With the help of Wayside Cross Ministries, James was able to finally lay drugs to rest and put Jesus in the center of his life. He seeks Jesus daily so that He can put Him first. James wants to be infectious to others with the love of Jesus and now serves as a greeter at Redeemer Community Church and serves at Wayside Cross.
