Limerick Lou, aka Lou deMartelly, is a sailor through and through. He started writing limericks as a computer programmer, but found his true passion for limerick on the open seas of Lake Michigan. He is Commander in Coast Guard Auxiliary and staff officer of information systems. Civilian sailors have been part of the coast guard since 1941.
As a child, Lou and his father often read The Book of Nonsense and More Nonsense by Edward Lear, the Shel Silverstein of the 19th century, and he was hooked.
In his comedic fashion, Limerick Lou says, “All limericks were created on the seventh day as God rested. To find the limerick for a situation, you simply have to relax and tune in.”
